- Can you help me start a new business?
Yes! Washington State is home to many well-known companies, including Amazon, Costco, and Microsoft. Some financial analysts even consider it the best state for starting a business since there is no state income or corporate tax.
Business owners can consider several business structures, including:
- Sole Proprietorships
- Partnerships
- Limited Liability Companies (LLCs)
- S-corporations and C-corporations
New businesses take a lot of initial investment, and it is important to set a solid foundation for future success. Whether you need to apply for business licenses, draft an operating agreement, or write a service agreement, the Law Office of Jonathan E. - What should I do if I got scammed by a contractor?
Fraudulent contractors are getting more aggressive so you are not alone if you have been scammed. Business owners are often targeted for identity theft and phishing scams. Whenever possible, take time to verify contractors, get several bids, and review all contracts. It is also a good practice to not pay in full upfront since many contractors will take the down payment and never finish (or start) the job.
You have several options if the damage has already been done. The first step is usually to contact the contractor directly. A letter or email from an attorney often carries more weight and allows you to reach an agreement outside of court.
It is always important to define your goal and to keep it in view. Is your primary goal to complete a project, to get your down payment back, or to prevent the contractor from scamming others? No matter the situation, please give us a call and let us help you find the best option for dealing with a scam.
- Is it difficult to file business taxes?
No one likes to file taxes. Business owners who don’t have solid bookkeeping systems in place will especially struggle when quarterly or annual tax deadlines come around. Take time to develop good record keeping systems so that you have accurate numbers at your fingertips. Nothing is more stressful than trying to sort through boxes of receipts the night before a deadline!
Although we don’t offer bookkeeping services, we do offer help with annual filings, licenses, renewals, and registrations. You can set up a call to discuss our business subscriptions which can include monthly consultations for any business or law-related questions, help with annual filings, and document review—all for a flat, monthly fee.
